Since I jumped on Twitter a couple years ago, I’ve enjoyed #FollowFriday. The concept of finding new people to follow and recommending people to others is fantastic. What better way to get the most out of Twitter than grow and enhance relationships? Meaningful conversations and helpful friends on Twitter brings me great joy.

Unfortunately, FollowFriday and the 140 character limitations of Twitter don’t allow me to go into much detail about the people I want to recommend others follow on Twitter. That’s why I’ve decided to take Chris Brogan’s advice and turn Follow Friday into a simple blog post. Welcome to my first one!

I recommend following @BLENDcentralMN if you’re a parent wondering what you can do to help reduce childhood obesity. BLEND is a grassroots initiative to help Minnesota parents and educators discover simple ways to encourage healthier choices, especially in regard to exercise and healthy eating. BLEND makes this sobering topic fun, creative, and easy to engage. They really peaked my interest, after I recently purchased Bento-Boxes for my kids to take to school in an effort for healthier lunches. I’m looking for tips and tricks all the time, and BLEND promises to help me with practical advice and family activities. They are just getting started with social media and could really use some parental support. If you’re a mom like me from central Minnesota, interested in connecting with people of who care about reducing childhood obesity, then I recommend you follow @BLENDcentralMN this Friday on Twitter. Her infectious smile caught my attention right away. Sunshine_Diva’s gravatar picture radiates kindness, and in talking with her, she is always polite, positive, and personable; the 3 P’s of Twitter. I look forward to visiting with her when we can connect. Her bio is so reassuring: “Coaching Women to Take the Limits Off By Living Fearless. Encouragement Diva. Entrepreneur. Non-Profit Strategist. Globe Trekker. Humanitarian. Christian. ” I would suspect she has a dog and a cat, as her last tweet begged the question (and made me laugh), “Why does my silly beagle love to eat the cat food and not her own food?”

Maybe it was her gravatar picture on Twitter that grabbed my attention; a corner of her red hair and dark glasses. Her picture accompanied a tweet that was quite sarcastic and funny, but true. I was new to twitter, determined to make some good connections and @ChiNurse caught my attention. I don’t really like Chi Tea. I’ve tried to like it, but I stick to coffee. My mom is a nurse though, so I know that people in the medical field can be brutally honest and fairly witty. I read her Twitter bio which says, “BSN, RN with RA. Mom of Boy.Transplanted Iowan. Border Collies! Reading, Writing. Parrots, bird nut. Supporter of fellow humans. Generally curious. Genuine.”

I don’t know what BSN means, and I only have girls. I’ve even on occasion made fun of birding people, as my friend Rosanne can attest. (Sorry Rosanne) A quick trip to her blog, http://biggreybirds.wordpress.com/ and you know this person is genuine. A REAL mom.

Most of all, I enjoy her tweets packed with 140 characters of funny stuff. I frequently laugh out loud or call to my husband, “You have to read this”. My husband has since followed @ChiNurse so he can read her tweets on his own. The most memorable tweets? Removing stitches from her dog’s unmentionables on the couch and being nearly scared to death by a bird flying out of a tree while letting her dog out. Yeah, they don’t sound as funny after I’ve killed the punchlines, but I assure you that @ChiNurse is one of our Blogoshere’s Top Most Interesting People!
