Away from my life at (work), I am fortunate to have 2 young boys who call me mom. As my oldest (now 7, or 7 ½ as far as he is concerned) was entering his toddler years, we decided to give Early Childhood classes a try. What a wonderful experience for all of us! We have been actively involved in Early Childhood and Family Education (ECFE) classes for the last four years. Hutchinson’s ECFE department recognizes that parents are a child’s first and most significant teachers and offer classes and resources for parents and children; birth through kindergarten. The classes consist of a combination of “Parent/Child”, “Child” and “Parent” sessions, depending on the age of the child. Not only have my children benefitted from socializing with other children and the interaction from the Child Educators, we as parents have learned a great deal about age-appropriate parenting topics. When parenting is complicated, it is a comfort to know that you’re not alone. During the happy times, it is wonderful to share the thrills of parenting with those who are in your shoes. The classes assist in creating a supportive network of parents in the community, as well as providing a foundation for my children’s ongoing social development.
Along with weekly classes, ECFE also offers a variety of one-time events and special opportunities for the families in the community. ECFE helps build healthy families and sets the stage for parent involvement and children’s success in Kindergarten to Grade 12 education. I am sure that long after my boys have outgrown ECFE, the benefits and relationships we’ve formed will stay with us. Article written by Kori Sanders. I cannot agree more about ECFE. What an awesome (and affordable) resource to have for our kids. I have taken my oldest to many ECFE classes, and now he goes to preschool in the same classroom. He looks forward to it immensely. I wish more people would take advantage of this opportunity!
