I’ve had a poll on this site for the last two weeks asking visitors about that last time they took a day to themselves. With the exception of one person, everyone answered only once or twice a year OR that she couldn’t remember the last time. Now, that is just sad! I must admit that I am in those numbers too. Yes, I get time to myself now and then. My DH and I try to have supper alone or go to an occassional movie. Last night, I sneaked away for two hours to go to a wine tasting event with my aunt. As nice as these moments are, they are too short and DO NOT count as a “whole day”.
I admit that I am usually wound tight. I am a born worrier and carry stress- all the time. Therefore, it takes me a whole day to even relax. I cherish whole days to myself, and remember with clarity each and every one I’ve had in the last eleven years (since I’ve had kids). If my DH wants to know what he can give me for my birthday, anniversary, Christmas, or Mother’s Day, it would be a day to myself; preferrably in my own home.
What about you?

Maybe it is the “whole day” that makes it so tough. I don’t think we should underestimate what an evening or couple hours to ourselves can do, too. A whole day is not always necessary, and obviously not as easy to come by. But if I can get away for an hour and a half yoga class, I am totally rejuvenated and ready to take on anything.
It took nine months after our son was born to finally do a date night.
For a while hubby and I were giving each other a whole day alone as individuals every other week. But that didn’t last. It’s time to come up with a new plan since date night was only once.
