Minnesota Lynx Player Lindsay Whalen Coming Back to Hutchinson

lindsay-whalen600 Minnesota’s Hometown Hero, Lindsay Whalen is back in Minnesota and playing for the Lynx. This has Hutchinson natives and residents very excited, since Lindsay is originally from Hutchinson, MN where I live.

What’s more exciting is that Lindsay is coming back for a whole day on Friday, May 7th and bringing with her every conceivable television news station and sports commentator. A caravan of news trucks, hopefully including ESPN, will be arriving in town to cover the event, as hundreds, if not thousands of people turn out to welcome and cheer for Lindsay! It will be an exciting day for Hutchinson.

Fun and Frugal

I’m excited and honored to be teaching a series of “Fun and Frugal” classes with Cindy Haugland of TidyTightwads. Our first class is in New Ulm, MN next Monday night (Feb. 8th).

We are going to gather with other women, share stories, laugh, and save a bunch of money by exchanging the best frugal ideas. I have the first part of the class, focused on Online savings. We are going to go over where to get the best deals online, coupons, codes, freebies, contests, and of course, staying safe.

Next, we are going to move Offline, to super saving ideas, including bulk shopping, freezer cooking, homemade products, and other ideas.

Every time I teach, I feel like I learn so much more from all the participants. It’s such a wonderful opportunity I’ve been blessed with, so I hope to pass along some great new money saving ideas with YOU!

What Food Should I Demo?

I am very excited to be teaching another cooking class at the upcoming Passport to Hutchinson event in less than two weeks. (I blogged about this event here) We are offering the class for a meager $5 so that anyone who wants to attend can afford to do so. My friend Prachee and I are going to teach Chinese and Indian dishes, help Minnesotans easily find ingredients at local grocery stores, demonstrate some unique cooking techniques, and of course, provide EVERYONE samples to taste of EVERYTHING we make!

I am waiting to hear how many people are registered for the class, as there is still time to pre-register. Therefore, I haven’t decided what to make. I’ve been thinking about traditional Chinese pork dumplings with dipping sauce. Most people aren’t aware of how good these are, as our “Americanized Chinese Food” often skips offering this traditional Chinese staple. I also thought about a demo of making egg rolls and/or spring rolls, as most people don’t make these at home unless they’re frozen and roll out of a box. Yuck! I have perfected traditional Hot Sour Soup, which is one of my favorites, but again, it can be an aquired taste and too hot for many people.

What do you think? What would be fun to demo? What things do you struggle with when making (any) ethnic foods at home? I really encourage you to try cooking ethnic foods at home. It can be a learning process, but I know my family loves Sushi night (not so much but I do), Indian night, Chinese night, Thai night, Haitian night, and the list goes on.

Great Rental Place in Hutchinson MN

duplex I own a rental property on Main Street in Hutchinson, MN. There are so many stories that stem from this experience, that one day I need to sit down and start writing. Right now, I need to find someone interested in living in a great place owned by spectacular people (me of course), managed by a great property manager, and located close to the hospitals, college, shopping, and more.

Please pass this information along to anyone whom may be looking for relocating to or within Hutchinson, Minnesota.

3 Bedrooms! Our rental property is a side-by-side duplex with three good sized bedrooms. Two bedrooms feature real hardwood floors. The other bedroom has carpet, dormer window and built in dresser, book shelf, and cedar closet. It is so cute!

Hardwood Floors! Because it is a side-by-side duplex, there are three levels. The main floor features a kitchen/dining area with hardwood floors, stove, oven, microwave, and frig included! The kitchen has been completely repainted for a chic old/new look. There’s tons of light wood cabinet space. The main floor also features a bathroom and large bedroom, which have been repainted.

Brand New Carpet!The living room has brand new carpet, fresh paint, and the entire place has old fashioned windows with the “cute little squares” I call them. The living room has updated digital wiring from both cable/computer access companies in town (HutchTel and MediaCom)

Washer and Dryer Included!The basement is great storage space and has a washer and dryer included! There is a full bathroom on the upstairs level, between the two bedrooms. The bathroom has brand new flooring, and updated tub/shower surround and mold resistant sheet-rock (but that’s behind the scenes details).

Make It Your Own Home!You will have a small lawn of your own, and a little flower garden space under the front windows, if you like to do some planting or decorating. Most tenants make it their own space. The garage has an electronic opener and is accessed from the alley. Therefore, you can park on Main Street (out front), in the back parking lot, or in the garage.

Recycling! City services for garbage, water, sewer, gas, and electric. Hutchinson has a garbage recycling program included, plus there is a place to take natural waste to dispose of for free! Oh, and did I mention that twice a year, the City of Hutchinson will pick up your old appliances, furniture and electronics for free? I call it “crap to the curb”, but how great is that?!!

Get Your Passport to Hutchinson MN

I am personally inviting all my lady friends to come meet me on the weekend of November 6-7th in Hutchinson, MN, but you’ll have to buy a passport first. Want to know what I’m talking about? Here’s the scoop. mn_map

If you’ve ever attended a GNO, women’s retreat, or getaway you know how fantastic it is to pamper yourself for a day or two. The city of Hutchinson is turning the entire town into a GNO for an entire weekend!

This is so cool, as so many events, specials, and freebies are being offered to women who attend our Passport to Hutchinson event. From theatrical performances and ethnic cooking classes to tea parties, spa treatments, 3M craft sales, and pre-holiday spectaculars at the mall, there is something for every woman.

Attend everything or only participate in the events that interest you. I’ve seen the docket of events, swag bags, and savings, and it’s going to be cool. -All tickets are very affordable, and many things are free.
