Confession? No, It’s Honesty

bubbles!Today’s Guest Confession is by Pamela, a stay at home mommy to a free-spirited two and a half year old little girl. She’s been married for almost four years without strangling her Husband. She likes to spend her free time by baking and writing.

I don’t bathe my daughter every day. I bathe her like 3 to four times a week. Because really? She doesn’t sweat much and she’s only two. But if she rolled around in the mud, poured yo baby yogurt all over her hair and its all a matted mess, then that’s a different story.

Sometimes, you just need a wipe to clean her hands because she just squished that spider with her cute little finger. Now, before you go saying that I have a stinky two year old, come and smell her. She smells way cleaner than you. She smells of peaches and chocolates because that’s what I bathe her in.

I don’t iron her clothes either. And honestly if she’s not going to meet the Queen of England or the President of the United States then why iron her clothes? She does look presentable and super cute, might I add but why should I iron her clothes if she’s going to be running, dancing, jumping, taking off her clothes and putting on new non-matching clothes? It’s just a waste of electricity if I chose to iron every item in her closet. I do, however run the iron on her dresses, before she wears them, if we are going to a special occasion like Christmas. I have a lot of photographers in my family that might take photographic proof that there is a wrinkle in her cute little dress or God forbid, her bloomers.

You can close your mouths now. I’m done. ‘Till next time!

When Motherhood Gets Tough, Go To a Movie

katherineI was recently invited to participate in a phone call with Hollywood movie writer and director, Katherine Diekmann (seen left with her kids) to discuss the soon to be released movie “Motherhood”. With a release date of of October 23, 2009, the buzz around this movie is building as we learn it’s based on realistic motherhood scenarios. Starring Uma Thurman, Anthony Edwards, and Minnie Driver, “Motherhood” looks to be funny and witty mixed with a huge dose of reality.

During the call with Ms. Diekmann, I was surprised at how easily I could relate to her life as a mother. Our lives are worlds apart, yet tied in a special bond that is motherhood. She’s gearing up for the release of her movie, and I’m hoping my frozen lasagna defrosts in time for supper. She packs her kids lunches and send them off to school, and guess what? I do the same thing. Uma Thurman’s kids are school age as well, so most of their kids (cast and crew’s kids) were in school rather than on the set of this movie. They did like to hang out in the snack tent after school, where every snack imaginable was provided for the cast and crew. What kids wouldn’t love that? I know my kids would have to be pried out of there too.

I am excited at the prospect of another interview next week with one of the star actors. While the details are being finalized, I am having fun sharing my excitement with you.  I have yet to see the movie trailer on tv, but I’ve been allowed to post it here for you to take a peek.

Katerine Diekmann is best known for her 2007 movie “Diggers” starring one of my favorites, Paul Rudd.

I have loved watching “Motherhood” leading actress, Uma Thurman, in “Kill Bill”, “Pulp Fiction”, and “The Truth About Cats and Dogs”.

“Motherhood” leading actor, Anthony Edwards, has long been a favorite of mine as Dr. Greene on “ER”, Goose in “Top Gun”, and of course, my own personal cult classics; “The Sure Thing”, “Gotcha”, “Revenge of the Nerds”, and “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”.

Minnie Driver, also starring in “Motherhood”, is best remembered by me in her role in “Good Will Hunting”. For my girls, they loved Minnie in “Ella Enchanted”, which we’ve watched over and over again.

Katherine Diekmann states, “My goal as a filmmaker is to explore the full dimensionality of my characters’ lives with as much humor and empathy as possible, always with an eye to socially real circumstances.” That alone has me planning to schedule a Mom’s Night Out to see this movie and celebrate/commiserate with my friends. After all, I’m snacking on dry fruit loops and writing this post, while my 20 month old stuffs fruit loops and puzzle pieces into my desk drawer.

So, who wants to go see this with me?

Mom Bloggers: A Whole New Marketing

Exams :( [Day 12]Not only are mothers cool (we all know that, right?), they are demanding attention from the business sector of the Internet. As social networking grows (blogging, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc) moms are gaining a prominent presence and power. What’s that you say? Moms have power? Yes. Corporations, TV, Internet, business men, marketing experts, and investors are being left wide-eyed and dazed by the power of the “mom siege” online. There are lots of reports in the news about social marketing and “mom bloggers”, so I’ll paraphrase it for you. The fact is, mom’s are: smart, multitasking people who are passionate about their families and interests. Many moms work from home or stay home to raise their children, and then spend time on the Internet communicating, writing reviews, networking with other moms, purchasing products, swapping stories, etc. Even moms who work outside the home are carving out time to get in on the action. “Mom bloggers” as they are often referred to have an online presence that is soaring, much like when Google took the Internet by storm. Companies are scrambling to get their advertising on mom blog sites. Marketing experts want moms to try their products for free in hopes of gaining a positive review in the blogging community. Start-up businesses are willing to donate free product for contests, praying that the exposure will build their brand.

What are mom’s getting from all of this? Well, for starters it is paying respect to the people who make many buying decisions for the family. Mom’s are gaining a voice and power as far as how business is conducted online. What we are seeing is certainly a tremendous shift away from traditional advertising methods, and toward one that is more appealing and accommodating to moms. And well, there are some darn good mom writers out there who are gaining a following online, by their witty and insightful writing talent.
